Take Your Kid to Work Virtually | Furlani Jobs

Take your kid to work day is a day where parents do just that, bring their kids to their workplace. Traditionally students have been limited to only going where their family or guardians work. But not anymore!

The Learning Partnership is a charitable organization committed to advancing publicly funded education. Amongst other great initiatives, they create virtual reality video tours of real workplaces. These videos give students a chance to learn about different career opportunities they may not have otherwise been exposed to.

Furlani recently took part in a virtual reality video tour, which included different work areas and jobs within our company.

In order to get the full VR effect make sure you watch the above video using a Google Chrome browser. It’s not going to work on Internet Explorer or Safari. It’s best viewed in VR, but if you don’t have it, just click and hold the mouse cursor to move the camera angle around as if you where really there.

For the employees featured in the video as well as other company staff, we asked three questions about their jobs. Below are their answers.

Mary Brown – Food Technology and Regulatory Compliance Manager
Job Description
I direct the design of all our new products. I test these new products in the plant to make sure we have the right processes and equipment to produce them. When they are ready to launch, I make sure the new products are on-time, on-budget, and meet the customer’s requirements. I am responsible for the nutritional information and cooking directions we put on the packaging for our products.  I am responsible for ensuring that our labels are compliant with the laws of the countries where they are sold. I manage two product development employees and ensure that they have the tools and knowledge to develop excellent products.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
I like trying new products and thinking about how we could make those products on our production floor. I love evaluating products after we have launched them and ultimately finding them on the store shelves. In product development, evaluating new products always involves eating. This is probably my favourite part.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Furlani?
My favourite thing about working at Furlani is the people. We work hard and get a lot done each day, but we always take time to laugh and reflect. We also make a point of thanking each other for every extra offer of help, which happens on a daily basis. At Furlani, the values of respect, equal opportunity, quality and safety are a central focus of our company.

Robert Sweet – Supply Chain Manager
Job Description
My role encompasses the purchase of all raw materials and packaging for the products we sell. As well, as the various utilities/services – natural gas, electricity, nitrogen, waste disposal, cell phones, and photocopiers. Plus managing the outbound freight/customer pick-ups for the Finished Goods that we sell. And finally, I look after the Health & Safety Program for Furlani’s and co-chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
Hmm, I’d have to say it is being able to interact with a great group of people and watch others “grow” as they gain new experience and talents.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Furlani?
My favourite thing about working at Furlani is related to our success and growth. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our processes and introducing new products. This ensures that we are always looking at new challenges and I’m never bored. (However, truthfully, my real favourite part is that my office is located beside the Research & Development Dept. and I get to sample some great treats!!!)

Marisa Dominutti – Community & Marketing Associate
Job Description
I manage Furlani’s online presence which includes developing our online content and managing our social media channels. I also take care of our customer inquiries and Furlani’s community initiatives. Lastly, I work with the rest of the Sales and Marketing team on projects like product packaging, events and advertising.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
I love that every day is different, whether it’s creating a new graphic for Facebook or writing blogs like this one. I enjoy being creative and interacting with our customers on a daily basis.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Furlani’s?
We have a great team of people working here at Furlani HQ. Everyone seems happy to be here and there’s a great work-life balance that I think is becoming a rarity these days. My second favourite thing is, of course, access to our tasty products. When the R&D team is in need of people to sample their new creations I’m ALWAYS game.

David Leva – Maintenance Supervisor
Job Description
I oversee our maintenance floor teams and shop staff. I’m also the decision-maker for mechanical issues.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
My favourite part of my job is getting to be a mentor and getting to make suggestions on tasks, and seeing those suggestions work and help the employee and company reach their goals.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Furlani’s?
My favourite part would be working for a company growing as fast as Furlani. Seeing Furlani grow from a small family business to one of the biggest producers of garlic bread in North America has been very rewarding.

Nimita Brahmbhatt – HACCP Coordinator
Job Description
I implement and maintain food safety and quality programs for regulatory requirements and globally recognized standards such as SQF for recertification. In collaboration with the QA team, I monitor processes in order to maintain food safety and quality of the product as well as ensuring program integrity through validation and verification. I perform plant facility inspections, investigate non-conformances and initiate corrective actions as needed.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
Being able to interact with different departments and play a role in the process from receiving materials to production and shipping.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Furlani’s?
At Furlani’s, we have great employee culture with positive attitudes to thrive more and upscale everyone’s skills and attributes to contribute to company progress. Being able to work with great innovative people with amazing skill sets in their fields. We have diverse cultures with respect for everyone
